When Arlington Lamar High School opened its doors in 1970, administrators knew there would come a time when a young man named Eddy Peach would eventually have to be replaced as the Vikings' head football coach. Few, if any, could have guessed they'd be able to wait 40 years to do so.

Legendary Lamar football coach and athletic director Eddy Peach announced his retirement to his players and assistant coaches Friday. Peach is the only head football coach in the history of LHS, which opened in 1970. From the first full varsity season in 1971 through the end of the 2009 campaign, his record stands at 311-123-6.

Good news arrived early at the University of Tulsa football office and continued throughout National Signing Day. Arlington Lamar's Ja’Terian Douglas is ranked the No. 41 running back by Rivals.com and the 68th overall prospect in Texas. He rushed for 1,868 yards and 25 touchdowns as a high school senior.

Monday marked the unvieling of the UIL districts for the 2010-11 and 2011-12 school years. The Lamar Vikings will remain in District 4-5A, but there are some changes. The Mansfield schools are gone. Instead, LHS and the other AISD 5A schools will share a district with Fort Worth Paschal, Weatherford and North Crowley.

Where: Lamar Cafeteria.
Cost: Players eat free. Advance tickets for other attendees are $10 and $15 at the door. Varsity players and their families are invited to attend. JV players are welcome to attend also, but we ask that the JV players do not bring dates or families due to space limitations.

The All-District teams for 4-5A were released Christmas Day in the Star-Telegram. Lamar's Derrick White shared Defensive Newcomer of the Year honors, while running back Ja’Terian Douglas, tight end Jon Longworth, linebacker Cliff Nyagesiba and cornerback Tracy Smith were named to the first team.

The Associated Press sports editors have released their All-State selections for the 2009 season, and Lamar's Ja'Terian Douglas is a first team choice at running back. Douglas finished the year with 25 touchdowns and 1868 yards rushing on 283 carries. He also ran in three two-point conversions, which put his scoring total at 156. |
