Eddy Peach seemed surprised to learn that he will be coaching in his 50th playoff game for Arlington Lamar when the Vikings face undefeated Abilene in a Class 5A Division II bi-district game.
"I had no idea,'' said Peach. "I never thought about it. I'm not sure what it says, but I'm glad to hear it.''
Thanks to Bowie's 62-20 win over Mansfield Summit Thursday night, the Lamar Vikings have clinched a spot in the state playoffs. District 4-5A's teams will match-up against District 3-5A in doubleheaders at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington next Thursday and Friday. Match-ups and game dates/times will be revealed this weekend.
LHS closes the regular season against Martin on Friday, and that game still has post-season implications for Martin and Summit. Plus, it will determine which bracket Lamar enters. Here are the updated playoff scenarios:
If Lamar wins - Summit makes the playoffs (Lamar will be 4-5A's second seed in the Division I tournament)
If Martin wins - Martin makes the playoffs (Lamar will be 4-5A's second seed in the Division II tournament)
Heading into the final week of the regular season, Arlington and Bowie have clinched playoff berths in District 4-5A. Three teams are in the running for the final two spots: Lamar, Martin and Summit.
