I have spent the
better part of the last three days
remembering you.
In every memory you are wearing the biggest
smile I have ever
seen. Remember the time I asked you why you
were smiling?
"I told myself a joke." What a silly guy! What
a loving guy.
I'll never forget all the hours of talking about
our A&M experiences.
Or all the trips to the Athens Wal-Mart
during camp. I have
so many visions of you at camp with kids
hanging off of you
like tinsel on a Christmas tree. I'll never
forget how excited
you were the first time a fourth grader told
you that he wanted
to accept Christ. The solace that I have
found these last
three days has come from you. I have never
known anyone who
lived their life so completed focused on God.
If there is anyplace
you ever wanted to be it was in the arms of
the One who holds
you now. I will miss you. I will know in my
heart that it is
you who says "Here!" on April 21st.
Until
we meet again,
Bridget Maloney,

Wow, where does one begin?
Every time I think of you all I see is your big goofy grin that beams from
ear to ear! I can't believe how much I miss that, how much we all miss
you. I'll miss seeing you at church. I'll miss eating with you at Freebirds
every Tuesday night before Breakaway. But more than anything, I'll miss
your smile. I have known you for sometime now and we shared a lot of the
same friends. I think they all would agree
with me when I say
that you were such an encourager. It was obvious by the way you lived
your life exactly
where you stood with the Lord- right by his side. I know that is exactly
where you are right now and that brings me so much comfort.
Jerry, your death
was not in vain, it has taught us so much. Our time on this Earth is short
and precious, and what we do with that time is so important.
Thank you for reminding
us that life is about loving our friends, loving our families, but most
importantly it's about loving our Lord!
I did not have the great
fortune of meeting Jerry even though he is part of my family. For
I am an aggie and he was a brother to me. I have wept and prayed
for his family as I would any relative close to me. All Aggies everywhere
are mourning this loss.
I'm still in such shock
that such a tragedy could occur to such a sweet and gentle young man, such
as Jerry. I knew of him during my high school days, but never really
got to know him on a personal level. I wish I had. After reading
some of the letters already sent, I can feel that he was a true gentleman,
whom some may have been jealous of. When my sister, Melissa, called
me with the horrifying news of a Lamar alum, I was in disbelief. Jerry
graduated the year before me, but my sister knew him. My sister is
currently a senior
at Texas A&M, and when she called me in tears about the collapse, I
didn't know what to tell her, to comfort her, especially, since one of
the fatal victims was a friend, student, fellow aggie, former viking, and
all the above. I just want to say that my prayers are with everyone's
family's that had a member of their family hurt by this horrible incident.
You have raised two fine
young men. Neal and I are deeply saddened and do not know what
or how to say the words.... we are thinking about you both, your son Michael,
your families, and of course, Jerry Don.
I am a year younger than
Jerry, but I remember times in High School. I was involved in Student Council.
Jerry was such a great leader. Everyone looked up to him at Lamar
and I'm sure it was the same at A&M. Even though I did not know Jerry
as well as others, I will always remember him and will continue to pray
for him and his family. He will be in the memories of many forever.
This young man obviously
played a major part in many our lives. And though there are some of us
who never had the opportunity to be blessed by his love for the Lord, his
handsome smile, or his ability to make other's laugh, he has affected many
of us in ways we could never express. As I sit and watch the coverage
on the tragedy at A&M, I cannot imagine the pain the family and friends
of Jerry are experiencing. My heart aches for you, yet
I have jealousy as
well, that you had the opportunity to enjoy Jerry in the ways you
did, and now have
life long memories of him, memories that I do not have. My brother-in-law
is a Former Student from A&M and I am a student at TCU, and we always
have joked about who is better than who, and now as I sit and watch and
read the support coming from Aggieland, I am amazed and proud that I have
an Aggie in my family. As well I am sure, that everyone is proud
of Jerry and his accomplishments. Though no one will ever be able
to answer the lingering question of why, remember that Jerry was doing
something he loved
and supported, and now he may be a Fallen Aggie, but his memory
will never fall from
our hearts. God Bless you and your family!! My prayers are
with
you.
MIKE, JACKI, AND MICHAEL,
JUST WANTED TO LET
YA'LL KNOW IT WAS AN HONOR TO KNOW SUCH A RESPECTFUL YOUNG MAN. I
KNOW BECCA, ZACH, KENDALL. HILLARY, AND MATT ALL LOVED IT WHEN JERRY WAS
AT MELIS' AND DARRYL'S HOUSE. HE WAS ALWAYS REAL SWEET TO THE YOUNGER
KIDS! MY THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS GO OUT TO YA'LL! LET ME KNOW
IF THERE IS ANYTHING WE CAN DO!
When someone says the
name Jerry the first thing that comes to mind is that big goofy grin of
his. That grin could turn the worst of days into the best! There aren't
word to describe how much I loved Jerry. He was the perfect example of
Gods love, I never herd Jerry utter a negative thing about anyone. Out
of all the people I Jerry was the best to spend time with! I have some
amusing memory from every time that I was with Jerry. Him making me listen
to 80's estrogen weekend for two hours, "34", pro hazing, the munchkins
that kicked his butt, sing(badly) country music at the top of his lungs
whale driving(also badly) 90 miles per hour down Cheek Sparger, and so
many more. It's hard for me to imagine life without Jerry, but I know that
Jerry is far better of then me. I love you 34 and I'll see you later!
Howdy,
My name is Justin
Garvin and i am a graduate of Arlington High School. I knew Jerry
through a friend of mine who brought him in to serve as a counselor at
one of our Disciples of Christ church camps. I have been attending
church camps either as a camper or a counselor, and i must say that out
of all the counselors that i have worked with i must say that he is probably
the most gentle with the kids as anyone. Jerry and i would go swimming
with the kids and since there was no diving board he and i would be the
catapult for the kids to be thrown from.
The joy on those
kids faces when Jerry and I would throw them and the joy that you could
see on his face was amazing. There are many more stories that i could
tell about that week about Jerry. I will miss him and his smile.
